When it’s time to get a new mattress the choices can be dizzying. At the end of the day it all needs to be based on what feels right for you. Most mattresses fall into three categories:
Innerspring Mattresses are the most common. They are made from individually pocketed coils that support you as you sleep. They also range from firm to pillow top which means more options. Some customers find that the coils can create pressure points which can cause discomfort. Most manufactures use layer(s) of padding or foam to quell this issue.
Memory Foam Mattresses
Memory foam mattresses are made up of several layers of different densities of foam. Due to this process they contour to your body type relieving pressure points. They can also range from firm to soft and are more likely to be adjustable base friendly. Some consumers find these mattresses to be “too hot” since they do respond to body heat. Many manufactures now offer memory foam mattresses infused with cooling gels. This type of feature will be specified by the manufacturer and retailer.
As the name implies hybrid mattresses blend these two styles. They use the support of pocketed coils but they are underneath several layers of memory foam. The coils provide sturdy support while the memory foam contours to the body, because of this, hybrid mattresses can also create a hot sleeping environment. This is why hybrid mattresses also offer cooling gel infused options.
All of these mattress styles are popular and are available in a wide range of firmnesses, styles, and sizes. Innerspring and memory foam mattresses even have Bed in a Box options to suite a wider range of needs. It may take some time to find the right mattress but making sure something that you will ideally be on for six to eight hours a day is well worth the time.
